 Pete Horeck UpdateDuring a Sudbury Wolves game on March 12, 2004, an ex-NHL'er was given a standing ovation by the fans in the Sudbury Arena at the end of the second period. Pete Horeck, an OHA player for the Wolves back in the 1940's, remembers many pleasant memories of the game and also the changes that came with it over the years. Being a young and tough player back then, Pete went on to play with Boston, Chicago and Detroit of the NHL during his 10 year career with the league. Pete now resides at the Extendicare Falconbridge and is very thankful to the staff for taking him to the Wolves game. He is also a dedicated viewer of NHL games on television as well. During the 1946-47 season, Pete joined the Detroit Red Wings for 3 years accumulating 38 goals and 46 assists. As a Red Wing, he also played 26 games in the playoffs having 6 goals, 8 assists and 28 minutes in penalty time, finishing his stay with the Wings in 1949. In the 1949-50 season as a Boston Bruin till 1951, the N.H.L' er scored 15 goals, 18 assists and an amazing 79 minutes in the penalty box. Coming back as a Chicago Black Hawk in 1951-52, Pete's last year with the N.H.L. gave him 9 goals, 11 assists and 22 minutes of penalties to add to his career. From a small town called Massey Ontario, Pete was raised in Capreol, reaching a total of 106 goals, 118 assists and 426 games played to his credit with the N.H.L. league. Pete now resides in the city of Sudbury and is still active in community services. " Remember When? " |
